With Queenstown being home to five of New Zealand's top 20 golf courses, trying to narrow down ‘the best’ par 5 is some challenge.
From Arrowtown’s unique narrow and winding 11th hole, to Queenstown's lakeside 4th or Jacks Point's daunting 5th, the top par five in the basin for us has to be Millbrook Resort’s 11th on the Coronet course.
Why Millbrook’s #11 on Coronet course?
At 515m long, this hole has everything to warrant it being the best. Firstly the views from tee to green are breathtaking. From the tee you feel like you can touch the Remarkables mountains, and hitting into the green the backdrop of Coronet peak is stunning.
Carve through a glacial schist valley with out of bounds all up the left side and two fairway bunkers situated on the right at a distance of 230 and 250 meters from the tee.
If you are lucky enough to find the fairway, the headache isn't over just yet. Play left onto a raised part of the fairway giving you a look at the green and a straight angle in. Going for this green in two is easier said than done. From the fairway you cannot see this green, the entrance is rather tight with two pot bunkers taking prisoners that come up short. Then with a large greenside bunker on the right edge of the green, and the left side a rock face, you really can't do much else but hit the dance floor to give you a good look at par.
