There’s nothing better than the feeling of smashing your golf ball perfectly how you envisioned it straight down the fairway to set you up for your approach to the green.
Here’s our pick for the best tee shots you’ll find at the golf courses around Queenstown.
Arrowtown Golf Club - the “look out”
Our favourite tee shot at Arrowtown Golf Club has to be the par 4 number 18 off the blue tees, aptly named ‘Look out’. After a short and sharp climb up the stairs to the tee, there's no better place on the golf course to gather your breath and take in the beauty that surrounds the course.
Looking straight back to the club house, you get a great look at the holes you've previously played on the ‘Valley’ side, while the natural scenery and backdrop of Arrowtown township offers an unmatched setting.
This tee shot requires some thought into which club to select that's going to leave you the best distance into the green. With a steep banking all the way down the left of this hole, you really do not want your ball to finish there. A cluster of Silver Birch trees stand just off the right side of the fairway. Hitting this fairway is paramount to ensure a good finish here on the 18th.
Millbrook Resort - the highest tee in the Southern Hemisphere
Our favourite tee shot at Millbrook Resort has to be the par 3 12th hole on the Coronet course. This awesome par 3 is the highest tee in the Southern Hemisphere, with the pro tee slightly higher and at 199m to the green, the yellow tee being just 105m to the green. It makes this hole not only beautiful, but also very versitile for every golfer.
Hitting downhill into a green with natural rocks on the right, a long greenside bunker on the left hand side of the green and one at the back. When you are standing on that top tee there is something special about taking in the whole resort complex that's been established over the last 25 years.
Golf Federation - 18th hole on Pebble Beach Golf course
In the heart of Queenstown, you can play a golf course from all corners of the globe. A popular choice is Pebble Beach, most famous for its 18th hole.
The tee shot on the 18th is a force carry over the Pacific Ocean while negating a Cyprus tree in the middle of the fairway. This is an iconic hole where many memorable shots have been played at the U.S. Open and other major events over the years.
